Our History
30 Years of Getting it Done
1995: Where It Started
Tri-State Sand was founded by Brian Gibson in Johnson City, Tennessee. What began as a materials brokerage for asphalt production quickly found its footing — by 1999, Brian had shifted focus to anti-strip additives, recognizing an opportunity to bring better product and better service to asphalt contractors across the region.
2000’s: Finding Our Footing
Tri-State expanded beyond brokering product. We began building and installing liquid anti-strip tank systems directly at customer sites — a move that changed how we did business and how our customers ran their plants. We weren't just a supplier anymore. We were a partner on the lot.
2009: Growing the Fleet
Tri-State became a licensed trucking company authorized to haul hazardous materials — a turning point that let us take full control of our delivery operation. No third-party carriers. No extra communication chains. Just our trucks, our drivers, and our product delivered on our timeline.
Today: Where We Are Now
What started in a handful of states has grown to 18 states and counting. We've expanded into concrete sand, landscaping aggregate, and specialty materials — but anti-strip additives remain the heart of what we do. Today, Tri-State Sand stands as one of the largest anti-strip suppliers in the country.
